Haven’t we all been there?

That moment during an audit when you suddenly notice something that should not be there… and your brain immediately goes into panic mode.

What happened

During a warehouse audit, a personal drink was spotted in an area where it should not have been. The immediate reaction was not simply to address the issue, but to wonder whether it could be removed before the auditor noticed.

Why it matters

The bottle itself is a relatively simple GMP issue. The more important question is what the reaction tells us about the culture.

If people feel they need to hide, remove or quietly correct something when an auditor appears, it may suggest that the requirement is not fully understood, consistently followed or confidently managed.

What good looks like

A strong food safety culture is not about pretending everything is perfect. It is about recognising problems, responding openly, understanding why the requirement exists and making sure the same issue does not keep happening.

Key lesson: Good food safety culture is what people do before the auditor notices.

What would you do?

Have you ever had one of those audit moments where you suddenly spotted something you wished you had noticed five minutes earlier?

This educational scenario is inspired by real-world food manufacturing experience. Products, people, locations and circumstances may be adapted or combined to protect confidentiality.
